This spring we put out a call for help to the artists, community members, businesses and organizations of Gallup and the surrounding area to take part in the Birdhouse Project.
Each participant was given a basic wooden birdhouse and was asked to decorate, reinvent, repurpose, or embellish it.
These will be on public display in Downtown Gallup, and will be auctioned off during the May Arts Crawl, May 10th at Sammy C's Sportsbar and Restaurant at 8pm.
Gallup/McKinley Relay for Life annually raises money for research, education, advocacy and cancer patient services. Relay is the major fundraising activity of the American Cancer Society. Our goal for the 2008 Gallup/McKinley Relay for Life is $100,000.
The response to the project was overwhelming. Browse the slide show of (most) of our birdhouses.
We had all ages participating, the youngest being 3 years old. Artists, clubs, city departments (check out the ones from the library and the fire department), UNM CCTE (high school students) and others created one of a kind birdhouses. Not only is Gallup represented, but also Thoreau, Zuni and the Navajo Nation.
